A hard-working, blue-collar type of basketball player, Joe Williams was a star before transferring to Fredonia State from Behrend College -- then a two-year school -- in Erie, Pa. An unselfish 6' 3" center who willingly did all the little things that ensure success, Mr. Williams led th team in both scoring (245 points) and rebounding his junior year. Chosen All SUNYAC in 1968-69 and 1969-70, he helped led the 1969-70 team to a 15-7 record -- a school record for wins at the time. Twice elected as captain by his coaches and teammates, Mr. Williams was named Fredonia State Athlete of the Year in 1969. In spite of playing only two seasons at Fredonia State, he ranked among the college's Top 10 rebounders at the time of his graduation. He earned a bachelor's degree in Economics in 1970 and was working as a senior account executive for business development for United Parcel Service in Buffalo, N.Y., at the time of his induction.
