A transfer student who took the mound for only two seasons, Douglas DeJoe set a pitching record in the fall semester of 1980 -- his initial season of play at Fredonia State when he posted an earned run average of 0.00 over 27 innings. He threw a no-hitter against Mercyhurst and a no-hit shutout vs. the University at Buffalo that fall. The Blue Devils finished the 1980-81 season with an overall 17-17 record. Mr. DeJoe's 8-2 pitching record helped earn him a 1981 All SUNYAC award, his first of two. His second season also proved to be an exceptional one. The fall portion of the 1981-82 season ended with an 11-4-1 record. After returning home from a spring trip to Pennsylvania and Virginia, the Blue Devils won eight of their next 10 games. They concluded regular-season competition with a record of 30-11-1 and a third place SUNYAC finish behind No. 1 Oswego and No. 2 UB. A berth in the Upstate New York ECAC championship tournament -- the team's first-ever post-season tournament dating back to the start of the program in 1950 -- paired Fredonia State and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Held in Ithaca, the tournament was the first time the Blue Devils and the RPI Engineers had ever met on the diamond. When the game was called due to rain after six innings, the scoreboard read Fredonia State 10, RPI 1. Capturing the 1982 ECAC crown -- their 31st win -- set a team record for most victories in a season. Mr. DeJoe graduated with a 14-4 record and a bachelor's degree in English. He added a master's degree in Counseling and Psychology from St. Bonaventure University in 1990. At the time of his induction, he was co-owner of Bobbie's Dairy Dip & Grill and staff songwriter for Fat Sam Music Group in Nashville, Tenn.
