A tireless working on behalf of Fredonia State athletics, Dr. Dallas Beal began his illustrious career in 1958 as Dean for Professional Studies after receiving three academic degrees (bachelor's in Elementary/Secondary Education from Ohio State in 1950, master's in Elementary Education from Ohio State in 1951, and doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Columbia University in 1958). Through promotions to positions as vice president for Academic Affairs, acting vice chancellor of SUNY, and finally president of Fredonia State (president emeritus at the time of his induction), Dr. Beal worked hard to ensure that Blue Devil athletic programs rose in stature as did all other aspects of the college. Considered the moving force behind the construction of the Steele Hall Fieldhouse complex, he lobbied the New York State Board of Trustees, members of the New York State Construction Fund, the New York State Legislature, and anyone else he might to see the project become a reality (timeline of 1978 to 1983). In spite of his demanding schedule as president, Dr. Beal was a regular at most Blue Devil athletic contests. Credited with expanding Fredonia State's women's athletic offerings, he was instrumental in improving both the number and quality of these programs. It is primarily because of his vision and leadership that Fredonia State has outstanding athletic facilities, respected coaches, and extremely competitive programs in both men's and women's sports.
