The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:
A truly gifted athlete, Charles Collins earned All-America honors as a multi-events athlete at the 1985 NCAA Division III outdoor championship meet. A state champion in both the decathlon and pentathlon in 1985, his 6,654 points in the decathlon stood as the Fredonia State school record. An athlete with a wide range of skills, his 14' 6" clearance placed him third on Fredonia State's all-time pole vault list, while his time of 54.78 seconds in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles ranked among the Top 10 on the team's career list. As a freshman, Mr. Collins was the SUNYAC champion in the intermediate hurdles. A 1985 graduate with a bachelor's in Elementary Education, Mr. Collins was an elementary school teacher at Nashville Elementary School in Rocky Mount, N.C., at the time of his induction.
