A two-sport letterman, Arnold Bartlett excelled in both baseball and men's basketball; he lettered in both sports four times. During his baseball career at Fredonia State, Mr. Bartlett hit .400 or above in each of his four seasons. In 1957 during his senior year, he batted .444 and hit safely in all 11 games. His record that year as a pitcher was a perfect 4-0. He recorded 48 strikeouts in 38 innings. On the basketball court, the 6-foot-1 Bartlett played center for the Blue Devils. He led the freshman team in scoring and, although undersized for the position he was forced to play, scored 559 points during his three varsity seasons. One of Mr. Bartlett's best performances came in a thrilling overtime victory against a powerful R.I.T. team. In that win, Mr. Bartlett scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against the Engineers' 6-foot-7 center. Mr. Bartlett earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Fredonia State in 1957 and a master's degree from the University of Buffalo in 1961. He retired as a principal and educator in the Clarence (N.Y.) Central School district.
